Program Design

This two year, part-time, program offers adults with special learning needs relevant, meaningful education and training to support their development of the essential skills needed to be successful in life, learning and work environments. Students participate in highly experiential activities which focus on the development of basic literacy and numeracy skills, thinking skills and transferrable ‘soft’ skills valued by employers.

Students also participate in ‘in house’ work projects and learn to manage the income received from these activities. During the second year of the program, depending upon availability and demonstrated job readiness, students are supported to obtain one or more community-based job placements in the following employment sectors Retail, Clerical, Kitchen Help, Janitorial and Grounds Maintenance.

Program Delivery

Students usually enrol in September and attend during the mornings from Monday to Thursday. Students experience a blend of instructor-led learning activities as well as guided practice. Student initiated activities, laundry service and recycling, permit students to explore ways to develop leadership, problem solving and team building skills as they work with their peers to meet collective learning outcomes.
