The Activity Assistant course is designed to provide post-graduate continuing education for individuals with previous health care education and experience. The course builds on the content of the Resident Care Attendant’s previous education and experience. The course is designed to provide participants with the concepts and practical skills to deliver activities to clients/residents experiencing cognitive and physical challenges.
This on-line course is delivered part time over a 12 month period, allowing most students to continuing working while taking the program.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Students are provided opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and necessary values necessary to plan and implement, with supervision, individual and group activities for older adults in continuing, long term care and rehabilitation settings.
YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Krista Scavo
Krista graduated from Lethbridge Community College in 2003 with a Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation (Gerontology), and from Dalhousie University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science (Recreation). Upon completion of her degree she wrote the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification exam, which qualifies her as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. She currently works as a Recreation Therapist in a 102 bed Continuing Care Home. Krista remains current within the profession by maintaining memberships with the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA), the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA) and the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
