Becoming a Student (Admissions)
Freedom of Information and Privacy

The demographic information collected from the student during application and registration at post-secondary education institutions in BC is required by the government to ensure accurate assignment of a unique identifier for all people accessing publicly-funded education in the province.

The use of the Personal Education Number (PEN) for this process has been reviewed and agreed to in principle by the Freedom of Information and Privacy Commissioner. Students are required to supply this information to complete their registration in courses or programs at the institution.
