Course Overview:

Learn how to combat wildfires and prevent future fires from starting. This is a fully funded 23 day program offered at College of the Rockies.

Course Details:

The Wildland Firefighting and Silviculture Training program includes:

  • S100 Basic Fire Suppression and Safety
  • S185 Fire Entrapment Avoidance
  • ICS 100 Incident Command
  • S212 Wildfire Communication
  • S235 Burn-off and Backfiring
  • S232/211 Pumps and Water Delivery
  • ATV/UTV Training
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 & Transportation Endorsement
  • BC Hydro Tree Worker Certification
  • Species Identification & Basic Ecology
  • Map, Compass & Field Communications
  • Silviculture
  • Forest Health
  • GPS, GIS & Data Collection
  • Fuels & Waste Management
  • Tree Planting
  • Basic Chainsaw Operator
  • Brushsaw Operator & Brushing Training
  • WHMIS
  • Bear Aware
  • And more

Requirements:

To be eligible for this program you must be:

  • a Canadian, a permanent resident or protected person legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • living in British Columbia;
  • not a full-time student (i.e. not enrolled in high school or taking post-secondary courses at the time of training;
  • not actively participating in another provincially or federally funded labour market program at the time of training, and
  • Your employment status is:
  • Unemployed (non-EI eligible), or
  • Underemployed, or
  • Employed in a low-skilled job
