Paying it forward

Like many of us, Sarah Amy grew up fearful of going to the dentist. At her annual appointments, however, it was always her dental assistant who was able to help her to feel more comfortable. That’s a gift she hopes to pass on.

“I wanted to become a certified dental assistant so I could help others who are fearful of the dentist to feel more relaxed and at ease,” she said.

Growing up in Marysville, B.C., College of the Rockies’ Dental Assistant program was conveniently located for Sarah. Once she became a student, however, she realized her hometown College provided more than just convenience.

“The College has an amazing program with incredible instructors,” she said. “I was also able to meet new friends and build lasting relationships with classmates, instructors and others attending and working at the College. I loved my time there.”

Shortly after graduating in 2015, Sarah found employment at Mark Dental in Abbotsford, where she continues to work today, helping to make dental appointments less intimidating for her patients.

When she returns home to Marysville for visits, she often tries to stop by to visit her former instructors.

“I love coming back to the College to visit,” she said. “It is an excellent college. I highly recommend it.”
