Josie is our final Student Ambassador to be profiled here on our blog. She is a local girl with an interest in becoming an educator and a fondness for the Village People’s Y.M.C.A. Josie loves art and the environment and her enthusiasm for all things is infectious. I asked her 10 questions to get to know her better – and so you can too.
1. What program are you in?
I am currently enrolled in the education pre-certificate so I hope to be going into the program next year, in September.
2. Where did you go to high school?
I went to Mt. Baker Secondary School. Actually, I just graduated in 2016 so it was not that long ago.
3. Why did you choose College of the Rockies?
For obvious reasons that it was close. Also I like my community and I like where I live. I didn’t really have any wishes to go anywhere else so this program was really good for me because it was right in my back yard.
4. Do you have any pets?
I have one Scottie dog and he has a lot of personality. He barks at airplanes that are super high in the sky.
5. If you were ruler of the world, what laws would you make?
Probably ones protecting the environment. I would not stop the ban on plastic bags. Probably lots to do with composting or recycling. I really believe in forward thinking as far as taking care of the earth and I think that’s really important.
6. What would you do if you won the lottery?
Probably finish paying for my school. Travel. I don’t really have a lot of materialistic wishes, I guess. I don’t really need a lot. Honestly, I would have to see how I felt when I got it.
7. What is your favourite hobby or activity?
I really love being outside. I try to go outside every day. Unless it’s like this when it is -25, that’s not exactly pleasant but I try to take my dog out or ski every day. I also really like art, I’m very passionate about drawing and painting and that’s really combined with my outdoor activities too. I like to paint the outside.
8. Have you ever gone or would you ever go bungee jumping?
Yes! I definitely would. It’s definitely on my things-to-do list.
9. How would your best friends describe you?
Probably as positive, very outgoing. Again, I really like the outdoors and I think I’m very excitable. I like projects and I like new ideas. I like communicating with people, also I’m very artistic. I think that would be a big thing too.
10. What would you sing at Karaoke night?
I really love 80s music and it’s embarrassing to say but I think my favourite song is the Y.M.C.A. I don’t know why but it just makes me happy for some reason.
