This is a hands-on course featuring extensive practical field experience augmented with one day of classroom theory and discussions. This course builds on the knowledge and skills learned in AST 1 by exploring more advanced topics and snow tests. The curriculum is designed to give a solid grounding in the essentials and is based on the requirements set out by Avalanche Canada. Your instructors are certified through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides as well as the Canadian Avalanche Association. This program is suitable for those who have taken the AST 1 program, you have solid experience in the backcountry and you dedicate most of your free time to recreating in the backcountry. This course offers 9.5 hours of classroom studies and three days of field instruction. Class size is limited to eight.
Prerequisite: AST 1 and backcountry ski or snowboarding experience.
Must have Ski Pass to Fernie Alpine Resort for Field days and must bring a shovel, transceiver, probe, skis or snowboard.
