Gradebook Essentials for Student Success

September 17 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

video conference on a computer screen with four participants. Books and a mug are on the desk beside the computer. Text at bottom reads "moodle | COTROnline".

In this session, instructors will learn best practices for how to utilize Moodle Gradebook in COTROnline as a powerful tool to assist students in their academic progress through standardized and frequent feedback. Effective use of the Gradebook supports UDL principles of Self-Regulation and Executive Functions in both online and face-to-face courses.

This session is scheduled ahead of the first add/drop deadline (September 18th) and two weeks before the second add/drop deadline (October 2) in order to help instructors assist students in making informed decisions about their learning journey. Use of the Gradebook for all courses, no matter their mode or venue of delivery, ensures students are able to look in a single location for all of their grades and track their progress holistically.

When set up correctly, the Gradebook can also reduce pressures on the course instructor for grade turnaround times and clarity in feedback. This session will support taking actions early on to reduce errors and concerns later in the semester in returning student grades. Support and advice will include selecting the best type of grade-item for the gradebook, altering the student view to streamline and focus on core content pieces, and removing excess or unnecessary grade components.

The COTROnline/eLearning team offers drop-in support to help troubleshoot gradebook errors and calculation questions and to advise on gradebook item selection. Contact us at any time to request one-on-one assistance.
