Hello students!

First, I hope you and your family members are well. These last few months have been challenging for everybody and we are certainly very excited to share information with you as we look to our Fall 2020 semester.

Whether you are returning to class in September, or taking your first steps into post-secondary education, College of the Rockies is committed to help you achieve your education and learning goals.

The upcoming fall semester at the College will look a little different. Since late March, we have all been doing our part to help limit the spread of COVID-19, and it is important for us to remain cautious as we plan for September. With this in mind, and following all health and safety guidelines outlined by the Provincial Health Officer, the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, and WorkSafe BC, we are planning for most classes to be held online, with some on-campus learning for those programs that require specific hands-on learning, with modifications to ensure safe physical distancing for students and faculty.

This summer, our education advisors and program supports are available to help you prepare for the fall. After registration, you will notice on your course timetable (viewable in AccessCOTR) that some courses show classroom details. This does not necessarily mean you will have a class in a physical classroom, as these details reflect our previous program and course schedule. The College will do its best to provide updates as they become available and you’ll receive more information as we get closer to the fall semester.

Here’s what you can count on for this fall:

  • As many of our programs have previously been delivered partly or fully online, the College is well-prepared to meet the learning needs of our students.  We will work diligently to ensure you receive the best possible educational experience including full access to student support services.
  • If you are enrolled in a program that requires hands-on experience (e.g. trades shops, nursing and dental labs, science labs, practicums, etc.), you can expect a mix of online and on-campus delivery. We are currently developing full plans for each program, taking into consideration all social distancing requirements, with safety top of mind. Additional details will be provided as they are confirmed.

Lastly, I hope you have a wonderful summer and we certainly look forward to serving you this fall. I know you will enjoy your time with us and will soon experience, what makes us ‘small-college proud.’

Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we work through this challenging time together.

Kindest regards,

David Walls
