College of the Rockies student, Amandeep (Aman) Kaur has been chosen as a recipient of a BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) ‘Our Future Leaders Scholarship’, an honour given to outstanding students in a select group of post-secondary hospitality-related programs.

Kaur is a student in the College’s Hospitality Management diploma program, delivered at the Invermere campus. Being chosen as a recipient of this scholarship acknowledges her academic standing, experience in the hospitality industry, extracurricular activities, and her enthusiasm for her future career in the hospitality industry.

“We are so proud of Aman,” said Michelle Taylor, Invermere campus manager. “She arrived in our program eager to learn and soon became a strong academic leader. She is so deserving of this recognition.”

Kaur arrived in Invermere from a small village in the northern part of India with a passion for the hospitality industry. Though she had limited work experience before arriving in Canada, she was eager to learn all she could. Her first work experience placement in a local resort restaurant quickly showcased her skills and ambition and she was promoted to the role of cook.

“I feel very honoured and encouraged after receiving this scholarship,” Kaur said. “I’ve dedicated myself to learning and working hard, and this is such an encouragement to do even more in the future. I would like to give a special thanks to my instructor Anna-Marie Rautenbach. She always motivated me to be on the right track in my life and my studies. The Hospitality Management program’s group helped me to learn how to work in a team and to see my ability to be a leader.”

This April, Kaur was a member of the first intake of students to complete the new Hospitality Management diploma program. As her long-term goal is to be a successful General Manager, she is currently exploring opportunities in hotel operations and other hospitality sectors in order to build her versatility and knowledge.
