Lieutenant Governor’s Medal

The Lieutenant Governor's Medal honours a student who has excelled in a two-year diploma or four-year undergraduate program, and has also contributed in a positive way to the life of the College or their community through outstanding contributions to the promotion of inclusion, democracy or reconciliation. The student is presented with a $1000 scholarship from College of the Rockies.

Jennifer Simmonds, Midway, BC

Education Assistant Certificate (Pending completion June 2020), Full-time with Anticipated 10.0 Cumulative and Program GPA

Jenny chose College of Rockies for its online education opportunities. Completing the Education Assistant certificate from home allowed her to continue to raise her family and work as an administrative assistant in local elementary schools. She made many connections during her two years at the College, both with her peers and instructors, and found her instructors’ experiences and passion for the field of education to be an on-going inspiration. Now that she has completed her program, Jenny will continue working in her current school district with the hopes of moving into an Education Assistant role in the fall.

Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal

The Governor General's Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal honours a student who has been registered in a diploma-level, post-secondary program (minimum two year, full-time duration) and achieves the highest overall average upon graduation. The student is presented with a $1000 scholarship from College of the Rockies.

Rebecca Barron, Fernie, BC

Business Management - Accounting Diploma, Full-time, 10.0 Cumulative and Program GPA

Originally from the United Kingdom, in 2018 Rebecca moved from Scotland to Fernie in 2018 with her husband and four daughters to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle in the East Kootenays. Having previously gained an honours degree and post graduate diploma in Law in the UK, and after working for 12 years in sports administration, she chose to enroll in the Business Management - Accounting program in order to further expand her knowledge in this area. Rebecca now intends to work as a Virtual Assistant, providing administrative and business support to small, owner-managed enterprises to help them to maximize their potential.

President’s Award of Excellence

The President’s Award of Excellence is awarded to a first or second year student who has taken a full course load (a minimum of 10 courses per academic year) and has achieved the highest cumulative Grade Point Average. The award recipient must either intend on continuing at College of the Rockies to complete a diploma, one of our four year degree programs, or is transferring to another post-secondary institution to complete a four year degree. The student is presented with a $2500 scholarship from College of the Rockies.

Kevin Petryshen, Cranbrook, BC

Kinesiology Certificate, Full-TIME, 9.90 Cumulative and Program GPA

Kevin moved to the Elk Valley in 2013 in pursuit of outdoor adventure. After spending a number of years working in the forestry industry and instructing yoga, his passion for physical and holistic health grew, as did his desire to help others. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Education degree with hopes of becoming a teacher in the Elk Valley.
