T2202 - Tuition and Enrolment Certificate

Effective for the 2019 tax year, all post-secondary institutions are required to provide the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) with each student's Social Insurance Number (SIN) on the Tuition and Enrolment Certificate (T2202) form. In compliance with this Canada Revenue Agency regulation, students paying eligible tuition at College of the Rockies are required to provide a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to the college.

Students registered in eligible courses at the College are issued a Tuition and Enrolment Certificate (T2202) form.  Further information regarding the eligibility of amounts can be found at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). After you have obtained a Social Insurance Number, please log into AccessCOTR to submit your Social Insurance Number (SIN) as follows:

  • Log into the Students Menu on AccessCOTR.
  • Under Financial Information, select Social Insurance Number (SIN) Information.
  • AccessCOTR – Self Service will open and click on the pencil icon to enter your Social Insurance Number (SIN).
  • Enter your Social Insurance Number (SIN) number and click Submit.

Reset your AccessCOTR password by email. You will need to enter your last name and your Student ID and a temporary password will be sent to the email address we have on file for you.

You may also provide us with your SIN number in person at all college campuses.  Be sure to bring your Social Insurance Number (SIN) card and a valid piece of government issued photo ID (e.g. driver’s license, passport) so we can update your number.  If you are an employee of the College, please contact Human Resources.

What is a Social Insurance Number and how do you obtain one?

The Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a 9-digit number that you need to work and be paid in Canada and to access government programs and benefits.  You also need a SIN in order to file a Canadian income tax return.

You can apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) in person at a Service Canada Office. Your SIN will be issued the day you apply.  Bring your original birth certificate or another primary document to Service Canada when you apply.


What is a T2202 (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate)?

T2202 (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate) is issued to students who paid eligible tuition and fees for qualifying courses that can be claimed on the income tax return.  The form shows the eligible tuition fees paid as well as the months you were enrolled either part-time or full-time.

T2202 forms are available by the 3rd week in February for the tuition and eligible fees paid in the preceding calendar year.


How do I get my T2202 (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate) form?

  • You must download your T2202 (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate) from AccessCOTR.
  • Log into the Students menu on AccessCOTR.
  • Under Financial Information, select View my T2202 Information
  • Select the tax year to obtain a pdf version of your T2202 form
  • For your current certificate, click on View My T2202 Information and select the tax year.

Note: No T2202 certificate is produced if total eligible fees are less than $100 for the tax year or if you are under 16 years of age.  Adult Upgrading (ABE), English Language Studies and Continuing Education are not qualifying program or courses.

Log into AccessCOTR to view your Social Insurance Number (SIN) information.  If you have determined that the Social Insurance Number (SIN) on file is incorrect, please contact the Enrolment Services office at any campus in person to provide the correct number.  Be sure to bring your Social Insurance Number (SIN) card and a valid piece of government issued photo ID (e.g. driver’s license, passport) so we ca update your number.  If you are an employee of the College, please contact Human Resources.


I am an International student; am I required to provide a Social Insurance Number (SIN)? Do I need a T2202?

If you have earned income in Canada and are filing a Canadian income tax return, you are required to provide College of the Rockies with your Social Insurance Number (SIN).  For the 2019 tax year, the College is required to provide the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) with each student's Social Insurance Number (SIN) on the Tuition and Enrolment Certificate (T2202) form.  The total eligible fees paid for the tax year is reported on the T2202 – Tuition and Enrolment certificate allows you a tax credit on your Canadian income tax return.
