Discipline: Mountain Adventure Skills Training

My first contact with the College was in 2001, as a student in the Guide And Patrol Program. An awesome program, very similar to the MAST program, but with a focus only on Winter. Set me up beautifully for a career in the woods! A number of years guiding and patrolling followed, with periodic 1st Aid refreshers at … the College! I joined the College faculty in 2018 as an Auxiliary Instructor, helping with the field component of Avalanche Skills Training 1 courses, and most recently (since 2021) I have been working with the Mountain Adventure Skills Training (MAST) program with the Wilderness Travel module.

I am a CAA (Canadian Avalanche Association): Professional Member; Level 2; AvSAR. I currently work winters as a Field Tech for the Public Avalanche Warning Service (we make the Bulletin 😉 ACMG (Association of Mountain Guides): Hiking Guide, + Winter Accreditation; Assistant Ski Guide. IGA (Interpretive Guides Association): Specialist Interpreter; 4-Season Guide Endorsement
Currently self-employed spring, summer, and fall as “HikeFernie”, guiding day and overnight hikes; as well as for other outdoor companies in the same capacity.
