One of our own was a big winner at the recent Skills Canada BC’s (SkillsBC) regional competition held at the College on March 2. Blake Thomson, a foundation-level Welding student, walked away with the gold medal in welding.

With the win, Blake has earned a spot in the SkillsBC Provincial Competition which will be held in Abbotsford on April 18 where he will compete for a shot at nationals.

“I was hoping for a win because I’ve been working really hard and put the time in and it worked out well,” says Blake. “The provincial competition is going to be tougher with a lot more competition but I’ll just put my head down and do my thing and hopefully it turns out.”

Once he has completed the foundation Welding program, Blake plans to continue his education and earn his Red Seal ticket.

Congratulations on your win, Blake, and best of luck in Abbotsford.
