Experience teaching and leading in both Nursing and Ultrasound and a passion for helping others learn and grow. Meet Dr. Meagan LaRiviere, the Dean of Health and Human Services at College of the Rockies.
Meagan brings more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, post-secondary education, research, and academic leadership. She began her career as a registered nurse working in neonatal, pediatric, and adult intensive care before expanding her expertise into diagnostic medical sonography.
Her career has since taken her across Canada and around the world, including leadership roles at the University of Calgary in Qatar and NorQuest College in Edmonton. She holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Research and Post-Secondary Leadership from the University of Calgary and a Master of Arts in Learning and Technology from Royal Roads University.
Despite an impressive résumé, there are still a few things that surprise people about Meagan.
For starters, she has four grown sons. Many are also surprised to learn she has taught in both Nursing and Ultrasound programs.
Since moving to Cranbrook, Meagan has quickly embraced the Kootenay lifestyle.
Her favourite discovery?
“The proximity to so many beautiful walks, hikes, lakes, and outdoor activities.”
As Dean, Meagan is passionate about creating opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to learn and grow together and is excited to see that take place at College of the Rockies.
“I hope our students remember their learning journey and form friends for life with their fellow classmates and instructors,” she said.
And her advice for students? “Dig in and work hard but remember you don’t have to do it alone. Reach out to your instructors, classmates, advisors, or support services when you need help. You’re doing great things for yourselves, and your families, so make sure to celebrate your achievements.”
Whether she’s supporting students, mentoring faculty, or exploring another Kootenay trail, Meagan is excited to be part of the College of the Rockies community and to help students succeed both in and out of the classroom.
