College of the Rockies new Director, Teaching and Learning Resources, Brenda Mathenia, looks forward to working to ensure the College’s services, technologies, and resources continue to improve and support student success.

College of the Rockies Vice President, Academic and Applied Research, Heather Hepworth, is pleased to announce the appointment of Brenda Mathenia as Director, Teaching and Learning Resources.

Mathenia will be overseeing the College’s library services, along with educational technology, including online support for students and faculty, and the Production Support Centre. This new, expanded role will benefit from Mathenia’s experience in leading change in a collaborative and supportive manner.

“I’m pleased to welcome Brenda to this new role at the College,” said Hepworth. “The vision for the role and department is to create a centralized service for teaching and learning resources for students, staff and community users. Brenda’s background will support us in meeting the continually evolving demand for technology-enhanced teaching and learning resources.”

Mathenia, who holds a Master of Science in Information from University of Michigan and a Master of Urban Planning from Michigan State University, has a diverse portfolio of experience from 20 years of work in academic libraries both in Canada and the United States. She most recently served as the chief academic and administrative officer of the library and university archives at Thompson Rivers University.

“I’m delighted to be embarking on this new role at College of the Rockies and can’t wait to get started,” Mathenia said. “The merger of the service areas is one of the aspects of the position that enticed me to apply and I look forward to working closely with this exceptional group of individuals.

“Along with my husband Ken, and our two cats Guido and Enzo, I am excited to be settling down in this warm, welcoming mountain town. We’re looking forward to becoming fully engaged with the College and the community.”

Mathenia began her new role at College of the Rockies on May 15.
