College of the Rockies welcomes new Dean

Dr. Shaun Longstreet joined College of the Rockies as Dean, Innovation in Teaching and Learning on August 23.

Dr. Shaun Longstreet will lead the new Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning

In response to priorities outlined in their Two-Year Action Plan, College of the Rockies has welcomed Dr. Shaun Longstreet to lead the newly established Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning.

“We are eager to launch our Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, and excited to welcome Shaun to the role of Dean,” said Paul Vogt, College President and CEO. “He brings extensive experience in curriculum development, instructional design, innovation, and leadership which will be great assets to the College.”

The Centre, created to bring renewed focus to strategic growth in educational programming and to provide support for faculty in the development and delivery of curriculum, will also oversee a quality assurance process audit of current educational programs.

“Under Dr. Longstreet’s leadership, this new Centre will help the College advance priorities including the creation of new programs, Indigenization of curriculum, expansion of open education resources and innovation in teaching methods that are so important for the success of our students and communities,” said Robin Hicks, Vice President Academic and Applied Research.

Dr. Longstreet brings over 20 years of success leading and supporting academic development, growth, and advancement for diverse higher education and professional learning environments to the role. He was at Marquette University for eight years where he last held the position of Associate Provost, Educational Development & Technology and has served as a consultant for the Menominee Nation Tribal College, and universities in Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, and Kenya.

Dr. Longstreet holds master’s degrees from Carleton University, University of Notre Dame, and Western Governor’s University as well as a Ph.D. from University of Notre Dame.

“As the first person in my extended family to complete high school, I have a passion for the public service mission of education and how colleges create opportunities to better people’s lives,” Longstreet said. “I especially believe in the power of a community-anchored, faculty-led, and student-centred culture. My family has three generations of ties to the East Kootenay and I look forward to joining the community.”

Dr. Longstreet began his role as Dean, Innovation in Teaching and Learning on August 23.
