A partnership between College of the Rockies aims to improve housing options for students at all College’s regional campuses: Cranbrook, Creston, Fernie, Golden, and Invermere.

Current rental market not affordable for many in post-secondary

College of the Rockies is responding to a lack of affordable housing for students by partnering with Happipad to create a safe, affordable, and convenient housing options.

“Students are finding it more difficult to find appropriate, affordable housing in a lot of our communities,” said Paul Vogt, College president. “This partnership with Happipad aims to augment the current housing supply, making it easier for students, and in turn other community members, to find safe and affordable housing.”

In the 2021 winter semester, the College opened a new 100-bed housing complex at the Cranbrook campus, which very quickly filled to capacity. Students at the Colleges’ Golden, Invermere, Creston, and Fernie campuses have an even more challenging time finding housing that is affordable in those communities.

Happipad brings homeowners with a spare room together with well-matched renters. Background screening, legal contracts, insurance information, and more are all provided by Happipad making the rental arrangement simple for both homeowners and renters.

“We are thrilled to partner with the College of the Rockies to address the pressing issue of affordable housing for students,” said Cailan Libby, founder and CEO of Happipad. “Our partnership aims to create a seamless and supportive living environment that benefits both, hosts and students, fostering a community built on trust and mutual support.”

Happipad’s focus is on companionship and compatibility matching as well as affordability for students. For homeowners, Happipad provides an opportunity to bring in a little extra income with very little effort. The service takes care of details like security deposits, rent payments, legal documents, and background checks. They will take care of any conflicts that may arise, as well as any other support that may arise.
