The annual East Kootenay Career and Job Fair is an excellent opportunity for businesses, organizations, and job seekers to connect.

More than 35 businesses and non-profits already signed up for event

College of the Rockies and Kootenay Employment Services are teaming up once again for the annual East Kootenay Career and Job Fair and invite local and regional employers to take part.

“The Career and Job Fair, taking place on March 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the College gymnasium, is an excellent opportunity for employers to meet directly with job seekers in the region,” said Jenn Smith, College Co-op and Employment Services Coordinator. “We have more than 35 businesses who have committed to attending so far but hope to double that by the time of the event.”

This event attracts local, regional, and national employers and non-profit organizations. It’s continual growth, seeing a five per cent increase in exhibitors in 2023, makes this the event for both exhibitors and job seekers.

With a desire to make this event as inclusive as possible, job seekers who benefit from a quieter and sensory-friendly setting will have an opportunity to meet employers prior to the main event.

“We have set aside 10 – 11 a.m. for persons with self-identified barriers so they can attend the fair in a more comfortable environment. It is our hope that by extending this form of access we can offer a more inclusive Career Fair experience for all attendees,” Smith said. “During this time, the gymnasium will have limited traffic and noise, low lights, and more chances to have one-on-one conversations with vendors.”

The Career and Job Fair is typically attended by College of the Rockies students, high school students, and community members – some looking to change careers, others to get their first professional job, to find summer employment, or to research potential career paths. Past Career and Job Fairs have welcomed 800 or more attendees.

The registration deadline for employers or service providers wishing to participate in the Career and Job Fair is February 28, though earlier registration is encouraged to be included in all event promotions.
