When you’re interested in learning about the human body and helping others, but a career in nursing isn’t your dream career, what do you do? If you’re Kelby Christian, you choose to become a Certified Dental Assistant.

“Assisting a dentist in surgeries and procedures seemed more interesting to me than nursing,” she said. “The College’s program was spoken about highly by people I talked to, so I decided that was the path for me.”

Kelby, who grew up in Golden, BC, attended the program at the College’s Cranbrook campus and found the reviews she had been given were spot on. Her instructors made the topics being taught engaging while also providing the feeling that her mental health was well cared for.

“The program is jam-packed with information. However, if you keep on top of everything and work with your classmates and instructors, things move very efficiently. Before you know it, you’ll be all done!”

Now working casually at an excellent dental office in Golden, Kelby looks back on her time at the College with gratitude.

“The College prepared me immensely, not only for my career, but for other situations I may face in life. Whether I am taking care of a patient, managing my own stress, or helping to solve workplace issues, what I learned at the College helped me to evolve and build the skills necessary to succeed. Now I feel like I’m an asset to a team.”

After not taking the route many would not have expected, Kelby’s instincts were confirmed; Certified Dental Assistant is the career for her. She encourages others to follow their hearts as well.

“When you are choosing an educational path, ensure the program you dedicate yourself to comes from a place of passion,” she said. “And also, don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
