Fire and Emergency Scene Management 1

This 24-hour course equips new fire officers with the knowledge and skills to manage fire and emergency incidents through effective scene organization, sound decision making, and structured incident management practices. Learners develop an applied understanding of how local fire ordinances, codes, and standards are created and enforced, then use that framework to support operational choices related to building construction types, occupancy classifications, fire protection systems, and fundamental fire dynamics. The course emphasizes how fire behavior varies across construction features and how those differences shape risk assessment, strategy, and tactical priorities.

Using scenario-based learning, participants apply incident scene management guidelines to establish clear priorities and maintain control of changing conditions. Instruction focuses on life safety and responder safety, incident stabilization, and the coordination of resources to achieve incident objectives. Students also consider property and environmental conservation priorities and how to integrate these considerations into an incident action plan. The course concludes with post incident responsibilities, including documentation, debriefing, and follow up activities that promote continuous improvement and organizational accountability.

This course addresses the job performance requirements of NFPA 1021 (2020) Chapters 4.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.5.3, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.6.3, and NFPA 1020 (2025) 9.6.3, 9.7.1, 9.7.2, 9.7.3. Testing for this course is conducted in accordance with College Fire Training ProBoard Policies and Procedures.
