
Greenhouse Practices and Operational Fundamentals

This hands-on learning micro-credential prepares you with the core skills needed to work in greenhouse environments. From starting plants and keeping them healthy, to exploring the tools and technology behind modern greenhouses. Through real-life case studies you’ll also pick up smart tips for making business decisions in the industry.

This program blends hands-on learning with practical knowledge to help you explore the structure and purpose of greenhouse systems.
You’ll build key skills in areas like:
- plant propagation
- irrigation planning
- pest and nutrient management
- safety practices
- and overall plant care
To earn the Greenhouse Practices and Operational Fundamentals Certificate of Achievement (Continuing Education) you need to complete the following three modules:
1. Greenhouse Fundamentals (15 hours)
2. Plant Propagation (30 hours)
3. Greenhouse Operations (15 hours)
Greenhouse Fundamentals
- Explore the different types of greenhouses, how they’re built, and how they work.
Plant Propagation
- Get real-world experience in a greenhouse as you practice plant care, propagation techniques, and safe working habits.
Greenhouse Operations
- Learn how to assess greenhouse performance and make smart, practical decisions to keep things running smoothly.
Students need to be able to use the required software required for the program and should be able to perform the following:
- Use a web browser
- Create and save documents
- Locate and upload a file
- Send and receive email
Technical Requirements:
To ensure the best learning online learning experience, you will need:
- a good computer
- a reliable internet connection
- knowledge of Microsoft Word
Note: Microsoft Office 365 suite of products is provided free to all registered students for the duration of the program.
(Apple products should be able to run the Microsoft Office 365 applications needed for this program, however there is no IT service support available for it. Students are responsible for getting their own software if their operating system/device doesn’t run the free programs provided.)

Recommended resources and reading material should be available for free, either online or through library resources.
Computers and Technology
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure they have the appropriate technology (computer and internet) to complete the program. Participants will have access to Microsoft Office 365 software for free during the program.
