You know that getting a post-secondary education can help you get a better career and earn more money. The hard part can be figuring out what to take once you get there.
College of the Rockies offers a wide variety of programs in University Arts and Science, Health and Human Services, Business Management, Tourism, Education, Trades, and more. Unless you have a very specific end goal – like I want to be a welder or a Registered Nurse – choosing from all of those options can be a bit overwhelming.
The good news is, we’re here to help! Our Education Advisors are still available – albeit virtually – to help with career exploration, program choice, upgrading, transfer options, and more. You can set up a time to virtually ‘meet’ with an Education Advisor by booking an appointment online.
Though we know our Advisors are amazing, they do need your help to make the most of your appointment. Following these guidelines and the following tips can help make your meeting as productive as possible:
- Provide information on your interests, skills, abilities, experiences, and personal situation
- Have a copy of your high school and /or other post-secondary education ready
- Write down a list of your questions before your meeting
If you’re not sure where to start, Education Advisors can help point you in the right direction to tools that can assist you in finding what careers are best suited to your specific interests and skills. Then, once you have decided on an end-goal, they can help you to find the right educational path to get you there.
“It’s important to take sufficient time to explore different career options to make the most informed decision as possible,” said John McDonaugh, Education Advisor. “Before and after meeting with an Advisor, really dig in and learn as much about the jobs that you are interested in to make sure you find the right fit.”
WorkBC has an online tool to help learn more about a wide-range of potential career options. On this site, you can learn details of the job duties and work environment, the earnings potential and outlook for future jobs, related careers, insights from within the industry and more.
Not ready to commit to a specific career yet and want to explore your interests? Our Education Advisors can also help you to find a University General Studies path that works.
