Black History Month Gallery: Honouring Black Leaders & Changemakers

February 12 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Black History Month
Thursday Feb 12th in the front foyer Cranbrook Campus from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, cupcakes will be served!
Join us in recognizing Black History Month through a gallery-style poster display featuring prominent Black figures who have made lasting contributions to civil rights, scholarship, leadership, and social change.
The event will begin with opening thoughts from members of the Advisory Committee on the Experiences of Black Students and Employees and will be available via Microsoft Teams for regional campuses.

This informative, self-guided exhibit is curated by the Advisory Committee on the Experiences of Black Students and Employees and highlights the lives and legacies of:

• Viola Desmond & Jean Augustine – Major figures in Canadian civil rights. Jean Augustine was the first Black woman elected to the Parliament of Canada.

• Thomas Sowell – A prominent American economist and social theorist.

• Bromley Armstrong & Carrie Best – Canadian human rights activists who fought against segregation and for labour rights.

• Toussaint Louverture – Leader of the Haitian Revolution.

• W. E. B. Du Bois – A foundational American sociologist, historian, and co-founder of the NAACP.

Participants are invited to explore the displays at their own pace. Light refreshments will be provided.

All employees and students are welcome.

We look forward to gathering in the spirit of learning, recognition, and community.
