Since 2015, College of the Rockies has worked with partners in the Eastern Caribbean to build a more inclusive workforce through education and training. During College and Institute Canada’s (CICan) Youth Skills Development program, the College supported Dominica State College and the Sector Skills Development Agency in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in designing a pre-technology training program to prepare out-of-school youth for further training leading to employment. The College also conducted industry research to ensure that training was responsive to industry needs and equipped local trainers with gender, environmental sustainability, and counselling skills. Subsequently, the College continued its partnership with Dominica State College to make learning more inclusive. Through the Government of Canada’s International Youth Internship Program, the College has deployed skilled young Canadians to support the accommodation of learners with disabilities and promote volunteer opportunities for young Dominicans.
