Though construction on our new trades training facility cannot begin until the snow melts and the ground thaws, there is plenty of planning still going ahead for the new Trades training facility at the Cranbrook main campus. The biggest new update is that a Construction Manager has been hired.

Careful evaluation and consideration was given to all RFP submissions before the contract was finally awarded to Chandos Construction Ltd. Chandos currently has offices in Edmonton (Head Office), Calgary, Red Deer, and Vancouver. Since they were established in 1980, they have executed more than 3,000 projects in Canada – including more than 200 in the post-secondary and institutional sectors.

The trades training facility Project Director from Chandos will be Scott Hunt while the primary on-site project manager will be Martin Croteau.  As Project Manager, Martin will work closely with the College to execute the build – on time and on budget.

The folks at Chandos emphasize the importance of communication so we look forward to receiving regular updates once construction begins that we can then pass on to you.

In the meantime, additional groundwork is being done to prepare for construction. Faculty and staff from the affected trades have been heavily involved in consultations to ensure the new facility meets their training needs and now that a construction manager has been hired, more consultations will follow.

We’re excited to break ground on this project – so lets hope for a quick – but safe – thaw 🙂
