Fire Driver Pumper Operator

This course provides students with the knowledge, skills, and practical competencies required to operate and maintain pumping apparatus in emergency response environments. Training is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1010 (2024): Standard on Professional Qualifications for Firefighters, including Chapter 11 — Apparatus: General Requirements for Driver/Operator and Chapter 12 — Apparatus: Pumper.

Students will develop proficiency in apparatus inspection and maintenance, safe vehicle operation, pump theory and operations, water supply systems, relay pumping, drafting, hydrant operations, and emergency scene positioning. Emphasis is placed on safety, operational readiness, and effective fireground support in accordance with current industry standards.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will meet the NFPA 1010 (2024) requirements for Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator and will be eligible to receive ProBoard certification as a Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator.

  • Admission to the Fire Training Certificate program or sponsored by a fire service agency or other approved organization.
