Film & Discussion Series with Dr. Nicholas Kinar

Join us for a film screening followed by a guided discussion with Dr. Nicholas Kinar, who will be offer a brief introduction to the film’s themes and context. This is a great opportunity to engage with the material, share perspectives, and connect with the film to course concepts in a relaxed, thoughtful setting. All campus community are welcome to attend.

There Will Be Blood (2007), directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, is an intense historical drama about the ruthless rise of oilman Daniel Plainview in early 20th-century California. As Plainview builds his fortune, his ambition and greed drive him into a bitter rivalry with a young preacher, exposing the corrosive effects of power, religion, and capitalism. Anchored by Daniel Day-Lewis’s towering performance, the film explores isolation, obsession, and moral decay in the pursuit of wealth.
