Return of program responds to community needs
Adult students in the Columbia Valley will soon have easier access to completing their high school diploma or achieving prerequisites for further education. College of the Rockies’ Invermere campus will once again offer the Upgrading for Academic and Career Entry (UACE), or Adult Upgrading, program starting in February 2021.
“We listened to the needs of our community and are excited to bring back this valuable program,” said campus manager, Michelle Taylor. “UACE provides a great first step for students. Courses will be offered through Directed Studies, meaning they are more accommodating than a typical classroom. Students can work from home when it is convenient to them and make appointments for face-to-face help when needed.”
The campus will offer developmental, advanced and provincial level courses (equivalent to grade 10, 11, and 12 course levels) in core subjects. All UACE courses are offered tuition-free with access to an Adult Upgrading Grant to help with costs of textbooks, student fees, unsubsidized childcare and transportation for those in need of financial assistance.
UACE courses will be led by supportive instructors who are able to provide individual assistance when needed. Interested participants are encouraged to speak with an Education Advisor if help is needed to establish a detailed education plan.
Registration is available by contacting the Invermere campus at invermere@cotr.bc.ca or by phoning 250-342-3210.
