Program Overview
Designed for students without a business degree, our two-year diploma is aimed at those who have a degree in a non-business field and aims to help you develop a strong foundation of business knowledge and provide you with the skills you need to thrive in the ‘green’ economy. Your courses selection will include economics, accounting, marketing, and business management along with courses focusing on sustainability.

English 100 focuses on composition strategies for writing across academic disciplines. Over the course of the term, students will develop an awareness of how rhetorical situations affect composition and refine their understanding of the fundamentals of essay writing (and clear communication more broadly), including paragraphing, thesis statements, essay structure, and citation methods. MGMT-410 – Managing Sustainable Operations
This course develops students’ ability to strategically implement sustainable business practices within the value chain of a business and to strategically implement more sustainable business practices. Building on the theory and metrics of sustainability, this course examines how implementation works at the level of operations management. Students review existing practices and consider new challenges that operations managers face when integrating sustainability within their organizations and traditional ways of doing business. Case studies help students analyze how businesses face challenges to be more accountable for the environment and resource consequences of their products, services, and processes; and to integrate environmental, safety, and health concerns with leaner, greener operations, green product design, and closed-loop supply chains. Case studies also help us explore how new tools of operations management reporting are being applied. An overarching theme in this course is developing leadership to guide change initiatives and future challenges in sustainable operations management.

HIST-230 – Canada’s Environmental History
This course investigates the long, complex, reciprocal relationship between nature and humans. To explore it, three areas developed by historians are examined: how Indigenous Peoples and settler Canadians have thought about the natural environment and colonized landscapes, how resource development and industrialization/urbanization have had short- and long- term effects, and how Canada’s conservationists and environmentalists have responded to issues that have arisen. Admission Requirements
Prerequisites:
- A degree other than Business, Commerce, Finance or Tourism from a recognized university/college or permission of the Dean is required.
Students with a business-related degree from another country may enter the post-degree diploma program in order to retake introductory business courses in a Canadian context; however, no transfer credit or flexible assessment will be granted for these students to meet program requirements with the exception of transfer credit granted for ENGL 100. - Students whose first language is not English must have an IELTS assessment score of at least 6.0 in all bands and 6.5 overall.
- Earned a minimum grade of C (60%) in at least one of the following: Foundations of Mathematics 11, Pre-Calculus 11, Computer Science 11, Foundations of Mathematics 12, Pre-Calculus 12, Computer Science 12, Geometry 12, or Statistics 12.
Graduation Requirements: Students must maintain a program average of at least 65% and minimum course grades of at least 60% in all courses contributing to this credential.
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR): A minimum of 25% of program credits must be completed with College of the Rockies’ courses. For the Post-Degree Diploma in Sustainable Business Practices, this amounts to at least 15 credits. In most cases, students will complete a minimum of five sustainability courses (i.e. MGMT 303, MGMT 305, MGMT 307, MGMT 310, and MGMT 410).
Transfer Credit: Transfer credit may be granted for courses taken at other institutions on a case-by-case basis.
