2024/25 Entrance Bursaries for Kootenay Residents
Columbia Valley Credit Union Entrance Award – Golden Residents
Two awards of $2,500 each will be awarded to a student who is a resident of Golden entering into a full time program. Applicant must have an account with the Columbia Valley Credit Union.
Brandon Salviulo Memorial Scholarship
This $1,000 entrance award is for a student from the East or West Kootenay in financial need entering into the Fire Services Training program. Financial need, volunteerism and community spirit will be considered.
Elk Valley Resident Entrance Bursary
The Elk Valley Resident Entrance Bursaries are open to first-year students entering a full-time post-secondary program at College of the Rockies. Elk Valley Resident Entrance Bursaries, ranging from $250 tuition bursary to $1,000 tuition bursary, are available to students who demonstrate financial need.
Kimberley Resident Entrance Bursary
The Kimberley Resident Entrance Bursaries are open to first-year students entering a full-time post-secondary program at College of the Rockies. Kimberley Resident Entrance Bursaries, ranging from $250 tuition bursary to $1,000 tuition bursary, are available to students who demonstrate financial need.
Kokanee Ford Automotive Entrance Bursary
Amount: $1000 bursary
Awarded to an Automotive Service Technician student in the Foundation program or any level of apprenticeship training. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents from Creston, BC.
Kootenay Resident Entrance Bursary
The Kootenay Resident Entrance Bursaries are open to East or West Kootenay first-year students entering an eligible full-time program at College of the Rockies. Kootenay Resident Entrance Bursaries, ranging from a $250 to $1000 tuition bursary are available to students who demonstrate financial need.
Brandon Alpine Memorial Bursary, sponsored by AECON, Janice Alpine and the Construction, Maintenance and Allied Workers, Local 2300( CMAW) – New for 2024!
This new bursary is sponsored by Aecon Group Inc., Janice Alpine and CMAW Local 2300, and provides two $2500 awards to Indigenous students from across the College of the Rockies catchment, who are pursuing education in trades, specifically construction trades, (i.e.: Carpentry, Electrician or Engineering).
Career and Job Fair Entrance Awards
The Career and Job Fair Entrance Award is for students entering into the Business Management or Bachelor of Business Administration Program for the first time. Two awards of $1,500 will be presented to students entering directly from high school and four awards of $1,500 will be awarded to a mature student over 20 years of age entering college for the first time.
College of the Rockies Entrance Award for Licensed Practical Nursing
The College of the Rockies Entrance Award for Licensed Practical Nursing is a $1,000 scholarship each year for new students entering the Practical Nursing program in September.
College of the Rockies Entrance Awards for University Studies – Arts and Sciences
College of the Rockies Entrance Awards for University Studies – Arts and Sciences is a $1,000 scholarship for new students entering University Studies in Arts or Sciences in the Fall semester.
George and Iris Brown Bursary
Awards of $2187 are offered to a female student entering a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) program full time directly from high school.
JM Flemming Entrance Bursary
A $250 bursary offered to a mature student from the East or West Kootenay entering any Health Sciences program for the first time and has demonstrated financial need.
Kal Tire/TC Energy Women in Trades Entrance Bursary
A $1,000 award for a female student entering full time into any foundation trades program after they have taken the Intro to Trades program and who demonstrate financial need.
Larry Telling Award for Nursing – New for 2024!
Amount:
Eligibility: This award of $12,000 per year, is for a student entering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for the first time who demonstrates financial need. This award will be renewable for all 4 years of the program upon successful completion of each level.
Selection: This will be awarded to a Canadian/PR student who is a resident of the East Kootenay region entering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program for the first time, has volunteered/contributed to the community and demonstrates financial need. You must submit the completed entrance bursary application and comment if you have any special circumstances or financial barriers that you have encountered in your life that this award would help support your goals of being a nurse. Preference will go to a single parent who strives to succeed in the program.
Mary Fiorentino Award for Health Care Assistants
Amount: $3,000
Eligibility: Awarded to a full time Cranbrook resident in the Health Care Assistant Program who demonstrates financial need.
Selection: Must be a Cranbrook resident or a refugee.
Midge Bursary for Cook Training
This bursary is for new students entering into the Professional Cook Training program for the first time in September.
Paper Excellence Skookumchuck Mill Awards
Amount: Ten (10) awards of $1000 each.
Criteria: Available to new College of the Rockies students, who are Canadian citizens or permanent resides entering full time in any of the following programs: Automotive, Carpenter, Electrician, Heavy Mechanical, Plumber, Welder Foundation, University Studies, Sciences, or Engineering.
Selection: Good academic achievement with preference to students who demonstrated a strong work ethic and positive attitude and/or financial need. A letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or employer may be considered.
Professional Cook Training Entrance Bursary – up to $750
The Professional Cook Training Entrance Bursary is for new students entering into the Professional Cook Training program – Cook 1 in September.
Eligibility and How to Apply:
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Be a student entering Cook 1 of the Professional Cook Training program at College of the Rockies for the first time
Randy (Fritz) Sandberg Bursary
Amount: $1,500
Eligibility: Open to students from Cranbrook, Kimberley, Invermere or Fernie entering the Heavy Mechanical Foundation program at COTR.
Selection: Awarded to a student in need of financial assistance, who have demonstrated community leadership through volunteering, participation in sports and/or youth role-modelling.
Rick And Marg Jensen Family Foundation Entrance Bursary
This bursary awards $1,250 to a carpentry foundation student and $1,250 to an electrician foundation student entering College of the Rockies Carpentry Foundation or Electrician Foundation program in the fall for the first time and who demonstrates financial need. Preference will be given to a Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie or Invermere resident.
Teck Scholarship
The Teck Scholarship offers six, $2,000 scholarships to students entering College of the Rockies in the Heavy Mechanical or Electrician Foundation program in the fall or winter semester. These scholarships will be awarded to two female students, two Ktunaxa Nation members and two other students in either program.
The Teck Scholarship online application will be available on March 15, 2024.
Yoki Fine Arts Entrance Bursary – $250
This $250 entrance bursary is being offered this year to a student entering into the Fine Arts Certificate Program for the first time and has demonstrated financial need.
