Entrance Bursaries for Kootenay Residents
Columbia Valley Credit Union Entrance Award for Golden Residents
Apply for this award if you’re coming to the College for the first time in September and you have an account with the Columbia Valley Credit Union. Two awards of $2,500 available.
Brandon Salviulo Memorial Scholarship
Offered in memory of former Fire Services Training student, Brandon Salviulo. Apply for this award if you are from either the East or West Kootenay and entering into the Fire Services Training program and could use a financial boost. A $1,500 award is available and will be based on financial need, volunteerism, and community spirit.
Elk Valley Resident Entrance Bursary
Open to first-year students from the Elk Valley entering a full-time program at College of the Rockies. Tuition bursaries ranging from $500 – $1,000 will be available to students demonstrating financial need.
Kimberley Resident Entrance Bursary
Open to first-year students from Kimberley who are entering a full-time program at College of the Rockies. Tuition bursaries ranging from $500 – $1,000 are available to students demonstrating financial need.
Kokanee Ford Automotive Entrance Bursary
Amount: $1000 bursary
Awarded to a resident of Creston, Automotive Service Technician student in the Foundation program or any level of apprenticeship training. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent resident.
Kootenay Resident Entrance Bursary
Open to first-year students from the East or West Kootenay entering an eligible full-time program at College of the Rockies. Tuition bursaries ranging from $500 to $1,000 are available to students who demonstrate financial need.
Brandon Alpine Memorial Bursary, sponsored by AECON, Janice Alpine and the Construction, Maintenance and Allied Workers, Local 2300 (CMAW) – New for 2024!
Sponsored by AECON Group Inc., Brandon’s mom Janice Alpine, and CMAW Local 2300, the Brandon Alpine Memorial Bursary provides two $2500 awards to Indigenous students from across the College of the Rockies catchment who are pursuing education in the trades – specifically construction trades (i.e., Carpentry, Electrician, or Engineering)
Career and Job Fair Entrance Awards
Available for students entering Business Management or Bachelor of Business Administration: Sustainable Business Practices for the first time. Two awards of $1,500 will be presented to students enrolling in one of these programs directly from high school. Four additional awards of $1,500 will be awarded to mature students, over 20 years of age, entering a College program for the first time.
College of the Rockies Entrance Award for Licensed Practical Nursing
This $1,000 award is available for new students entering the Practical Nursing program in September.
College of the Rockies Entrance Award for University Arts and Sciences
This $1,000 award is available for new students entering into University Arts or Sciences in the fall semester.
Fay and Rad Hartwell Bursary
$500 is awarded to a student entering or continuing in the culinary arts program. Citizen or permanent resident, financial need with preference going to an applicant with a strong work ethic.
George and Iris Brown Bursary
Awards for $2,187 are available for a female student entering a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program full time, directly from high school.
JM Flemming Entrance Bursary
A $250 bursary available for a mature student from the East or West Kootenay entering any Health Sciences program for the first time and who has demonstrated financial need.
Kal Tire/TC Energy Women in Trades Entrance Bursary
A $1,000 award is available for a female student entering full-time into any foundation trades program after having taken the Women in Trades Training program previously and who demonstrate financial need.
Larry Telling Award for Nursing – New for 2024!
This award of $12,000 per year, will be awarded to a Canadian or Permanent Resident students who is a resident of the East Kootenay region and who is entering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program for the first time, has volunteered/contributed to the community, and has demonstrated financial need. The entrance bursary application must be completed, and you should indicate if you’ve experienced any special circumstances or financial barriers that this award can help with, making your path to becoming a nurse a little easier. Preference will go to a single parent who strives to succeed in the program. This award will be renewable for all 4 years of the program upon successful completion of each level.
Mary Fiorentino Award for Health Care Assistants
This $3,000 award is presented to a Cranbrook resident or refugee enrolled full-time in the Health Care Assistant program and who demonstrates financial need.
Paper Excellence Skookumchuck Mill Awards
Ten (10) awards of $1,000 each are available for new, Canadian citizens or permanent residents, College of the Rockies students entering any of the following programs full-time: Automotive, Carpenter, Electrician, Heavy Mechanical, Plumber, Welder foundation, University Sciences, or Engineering. Selection based on good academic achievement with preference for students who demonstrate a strong work ethic and positive attitude and/or financial need. A letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or employer may be considered.
Professional Cook Training Entrance Bursary – up to $750
This bursary of up to $750 is available for new students entering into the Professional Cook Training program – Cook 1 in September. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
Randy (Fritz) Sandberg Bursary
Open to students from Cranbrook, Kimberley, Invermere, or Fernie entering the Heavy Mechanical foundation program at College of the Rockies. A $1,500 bursary will be awarded to a student in need of financial assistance who have demonstrated community leadership through volunteering, participation in sports and/or youth role-modelling.
Richard John Walkley Bursary
$750 is awarded to a student entering or continuing in the carpentry program. Canadian Citizen or permanent resident, financial need with preference going to an applicant with a strong work ethic.
Rick And Marg Jensen Family Foundation Entrance Bursary
A $1,250 bursary is open for a carpentry foundation student with a second $1,250 open for an electrician foundation student entering College of the Rockies for the first time, and who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, or Invermere residents.
Teck Scholarship – Separate application
Six $2,000 scholarships are open to students entering College of the Rockies in Heavy Mechanical or Electrician Foundation programs in the fall or winter semester. The six awards will be awarded to two female students, two Ktunaxa Nation members, and two other students in either program.
Yoki Fine Arts Entrance Bursary – $250
This $250 entrance bursary is offered to a student entering the Fine Arts certificate program for the first time and who has demonstrated financial need.
