Mike McPhee, MA

Discipline: Tourism Management / Mountain Adventure Skills Training

I have lived in the Kootenays for over 20 years and have spent 25 years working in tourism, marketing, design and content creation. As a photographer, writer and video producer, I have a couple thousand published photos, over 100 articles, 1 book and many videos and TV shows to my credit. Within tourism, I have been fortunate enough to have won awards for marketing and leadership. I spent 20 years working in marketing within the resort industry, including senior management roles at large multi-season resorts.

I have dedicated many years to volunteering on various industry boards and committees within the province including: The Destination BC Marketing Committee and I am currently the Board of Directors Chair for Kootenay Rockies Tourism.

On the academic side, I am a lifelong learner and have a Master of Arts in Tourism Management.

Sharing my passion for the tourism industry is a driving force for me and I have taught tourism courses at Royal Roads University and College of the Rockies. I currently teach in the Tourism Management and Mountain Adventure Skills Training (MAST) program at COTR.

Outdoor recreation is a big part of my life and I spend time snowboarding, fly fishing, canoeing, hiking, camping and traveling.
