Mind Over Metal

This is Phoenix.  She recently participated in our Mind Over Metal camp, alongside her brother.  Turns out she was the only female to participate in the camp, but that didn’t stop her from shining.

Phoenix, who is 12, was encouraged to take the camp by her dad – and she quickly fell in love with it. In fact, she can’t wait to come back again next year.

“I like welding because I can express my creativity and imagination and create things,” she says. “I think it is pretty fun so I’m considering welding as a career.”

Most of Phoenix’s family is involved in the arts – many are musicians. Her only family member in the trades is her dad, an electrician. Through her experience in the Mind Over Metal camp, she now clearly sees how the arts and trades can come together, combining creativity with technical skill.

With a new-found love of welding, Phoenix would definitely encourage others (girls and boys) to attend the camp. “I would recommend a lot of people come out here and try it,” she adds.

Watch for a new Mind Over Metal camp in 2018.  We look forward to seeing you there again, Phoenix!
