Provincial English: Literature-based
The Literature-based English course develops students’ critical reading, writing, and communication skills through the study of literature from diverse voices and genres, including works by Indigenous First Peoples and Canadian authors. Emphasizing both analysis and creativity, students explore the power of language, examine literary elements, and evaluate arguments with attention to tone, structure, and purpose. Through reading, discussion, and research-based writing, students refine their ability to think critically, write effectively, and communicate persuasively in academic and collaborative contexts. The course prepares learners for post-secondary English studies by fostering strong skills in literary interpretation, academic writing, oral presentation, and problem-solving.
