The Winter Courses Setup Series
December 10 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
The Winter Course Setup series is designed to help Instructors prepare their courses for the upcoming semester. The series is based on the Course Review checklist so it will be helpful for newer instructors who want some assistance reviewing the checklist. It will also be useful for experienced instructors who may be making significant adjustments to courses or just want a refresher.
This series include three sessions:
- Essential Structure and Settings: In this session, instructors will cover essential course settings, including course dates, section structure, content visibility, and gradebook settings. They will also review course section combinations and explore UDL and accessibility features.
- Gradebook Review: In this session, instructors will use their course outline and syllabus to set up and confirm the core gradebook structure for the Winter Semester. This includes aligning gradebook categories and weights with the course outline, incorporating UDL and accessibility practices, applying correct assignment weights, and ensuring gradebook visibility aligns with course learning objectives (e.g., displaying percentages versus feedback).
- Groups and Groupings: In this session, instructors will review class lists and confirm that groups and groupings are set up correctly to support student access to assessments and content. Topics include sorting the student roster, creating groups for section management and group work, creating groupings for assignments and restricted discussions, and applying restriction settings for groups and groupings.
