Employer video sessions will allow those seeking employment to make connections with potential employers
College of the Rockies has partnered with Kootenay Employment Services (KES) and Work BC to hold the East Kootenay Online Career Week 2022 from March 1 through March 4. The Career Fair aims to connect regional job seekers with employers in the region and beyond.
“We’re excited to bring employers and those seeking new employment opportunities together in a safe way through our online career week,” said Jenn Smith, College of the Rockies’ Co-op and Employment Services Coordinator. “Employers can register to participate up until February 21 by contacting careerfair@cotr.bc.ca.”
To raise awareness of accessibility in the workplace, the Career Week will include a featured speaker. Yat Li, Senior Accessibility Consultant at Presidents Group, was born with a congenital condition which requires him to wear prosthetic ears and a bone-anchored hearing aid. In his presentation, Breaking Barriers – Deaf to Employment, Li will help break down myths about the costs of hiring individuals with disabilities, encourage employers to rethink their current hiring practices, and inspire individuals with diverse abilities. Li’s presentation is sponsored by Columbia Basin Trust and is free to attend. Pre-registration is required.
Starting March 1, job seekers will be able to view Job Opportunity Sessions from a variety of employment categories, including Tourism, Health, Finance, Education, Trades as well as summer employment opportunities. Each session will include up to five employers speaking about their company and current job openings. Detailed employer contact information will also be provided for follow-up. The sessions will be available on both the College’s website and Kootenay Employment Services website.
“This is a great way for our organizations to work together in partnership,” said Kerstin Renner, Regional Community Development Manager with WorkBC. “Over the past couple of years, we have adapted to bring this event to job seekers in the Kootenays and provide them with this excellent opportunity to find a new career or summer employment by showcasing jobs throughout the region. This year, once again, you can access the event from the comfort of your home.”
