Environmental Water Monitoring

The Environmental Water Monitoring micro-credential can help you develop the foundational and technical skills you need to work effectively in the field, collecting and storing water samples.

A series of online and in-person lectures are complemented by 65 hours of hands-on training by industry experts with skills and experience in environmental water monitoring and fieldwork. 

In addition to the specific field training in Water Monitoring across groundwater, lakewater, and rivers, you will have the opportunity to earn Certification in Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring standards along with five additional industry standard health and safety certifications, required when on a water monitoring contract.

ENWM 610 – Environmental Water Monitoring

The course provides an overview to environmental water monitoring. There are four key modules. Sessions in the first module consist of an online orientation and training in wilderness preparedness and field work expectations and skills, which complement several workplace health and safety courses. This introductory module is followed by a Module on Data collection, sampling, and analysis with in-the-field training in groundwater and lake water monitoring. Module 3 extends this field training to rivers with a Hydrometrics focus and CABIN Field Technician certification. The course concludes with Module 4 which briefly introduces key software and technology skills before a capstone project and online conclusion.
