Are you new to Canada and interested in improving your English language skills? Being able to communicate in English can greatly improve your ability to find employment, interact with English-speaking friends and neighbours, and can help you to prepare for further education.
Program Overview
We welcome students 17 and older (mature students are welcome) from all over the world to our English Language Program where you work on improving your:
No study permit is required if you are attending for 6-months or less. Flexible start dates are available if you are joining in the first half of a semester and only enrolling short-term. You must attend a minimum of six weeks.

Course Descriptions
In this course, students will develop strategies for the successful use of pre-intermediate English language skills within a Canadian academic setting. They will integrate reading, writing and analytical skills through the study of intercultural situations and daily life topics. Students will apply those skills to create factual writings, to analyze adapted English readings and to express themselves using pre-intermediate grammatical structures.
In this course, students will develop strategies for the successful use of pre-intermediate English language skills within a Canadian academic setting. They will study intercultural situations and themes through classroom activities that integrate listening, communication and analytical skills. Students will apply those skills to create small group discussions, to respond to simplistic English listening and to express themselves verbally using pre-intermediate English grammatical structures.
In this course, students will develop strategies for the successful use of intermediate English language skills within a Canadian academic setting. They will integrate reading, writing and analytical skills through the study of intercultural situations and life topics. Students will apply those skills to create narrative and factual writings, to analyze adapted English readings and to express themselves using intermediate grammatical structures.

In this college preparation course, students will build upon their backgrounds and experiences to develop strategies for success in Canadian academic settings. They will integrate reading, writing and critical thinking skills through the study of intercultural situations and academic subjects. Students will be able to analyse academic materials within cultural contexts, apply their knowledge, and provide thoughtful written expression of their learning.
Admission Requirements
Students whose first language is not English wishing to study at the College of the Rockies are required to take the Test of English Language Proficiency (TELP). The TELP is scheduled at three different times during the year: late August, early January and late April. The TELP takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete and measures competency in listening, grammar, reading, vocabulary, academic writing skills and speaking. Based on their score, students are placed into the level that best helps them to develop English language skills. Students with an IELTS score with two or more bands of 5.5 or less must take the TELP.
