Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship

Length of Program:   

• 7 weeks

This program offers technical and practical training related to:

Safe and effective work practices, using hand tools, measuring and layout of equipment, using fixed shop machines and equipment and using mobile access equipment. Apprentices
will describe welding practices and use oxy-fuel cutting, welding and heating equipment and will develop skills in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), and using and maintaining plasma arc cutting equipment. Safe work practices related to the industrial mechanic trade are reinforced throughout the program.

This program offers technical and practical training related to:

Using fits and tolerances and installing and maintaining lubricating systems and seals
and bearings. Using safe rigging practices, securing equipment, and leveling and alignment procedures are covered along with theoretical content related to hydraulics and interpreting hydraulic schematics and components. The program also develops skills for the following welding processes: shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Safe work practices related to the industrial mechanic trade are reinforced throughout the program.

Performing dial and laser alignments, selecting, installing and maintaining fans and blowers, positive and non-positive displacement pumps, compressors, tanks, containers and piping. Apprentices also cover hydraulic components, circuits and systems and pneumatic components, circuits and systems. Conveying systems, turbines, electric motors and internal combustion engines. Apprentices learn to preform preventative and predictive maintenance related to operational equipment effectiveness, vibration analysis, balancing procedures and NDE (non-destructive evaluation) procedures. Commissioning and decommissioning systems and components as well as servicing robotics and automated equipment are also covered. Safe work practices related to the industrial mechanic trade are reinforced throughout the program.
